Very similar to the smaller Cardinal Meadowhawk, one of the last red dragonflies of the summer, I got him on the horsetail grass just after a Flame Skimmer had left. Below was the Leopard Frog who had just missed another damsel: I am determined to get a shot of a frog attempting to get a damsel next year. It's a miracle that they even come close with all four limbs akimbo in a great leap.
I was at the swamp this morning, but it was cool and there was a slight breeze and it seemed obvious it was not to the liking of odonates. But there were 37 Canada Geese having a convention in the middle of the pond. I don't know why, but there were none at the shores. No mallards either. Maybe we're starting with a clean slate.
