Sun had set enough so no more direct lighting. Camera was put away in the car. Then I spotted the dog walkers heading right toward where we'd not dare go ... right next to the owl. On occasion the unobservant dog walkers who chase away birds we've been watching for hours can be appreciated. Camera grabbed, settings drastically changed and fired.
First-year female. Sandy Point, Ferndale WA. Thank you, Phil Calise, for spotting this. Let's hope for an irruptive year. It appears to have slight ear tufts which I've not seen before.
