Spotted this when walking around Hanley today in the Radio Stoke foyer. Russell Powell was an ex-student of mine. I taught him English and he was in my form for five years too. In his thirties, he suffered from an aggressive form of cancer which took his life, leaving a wife and two kids. In his last months he was determined to leave a legacy - he was involved in local youth football and he created "Russ' Rules" for the enjoyment of the game.
I spoke to him a few days before he died - truly inspirational lad.
