This was taken on my last day trip to London which included a visit to Embankment Underground Station. I had taken a shot here before but it is one of my favourite tunnels on the London Underground and I wanted to try it with a different viewpoint. First task was to find the tunnel again in the total maze at this station. I eventually found it further down en route to the Bakerloo Line. It is a link tunnel between the Bakerloo Line and the Northern Line and for some reason it is very little used off-peak which allowed me to try out various shots.
.
The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with an 8mm Samyang Fisheye Lens. I use one shot with RAW editing. I edited in Photoshop first using the ruler tool and crop tool to get the view lined up just right. I then used Topaz Clarity. The clone tool was used to remove distractions in the corners and then a slight vignette was added

Something a little different. On Friday 27th May I went on one of the London Transport Museum Hidden London Tours. This one was of the lost tunnels under Euston Railway Station. These are abandoned areas of the London Underground. This Tour is a new one starting 2016 and I was on the second day they were running the Tour. There were 20 people on the 75 minute Tour. Of all the shots taken the lighting made this one a must to post.

The London Transport Museum run tours of these Tunnels running 4 days a week over about 8 weeks spread between a set in the spring and another in the Autumn. These rapidly sell out and I got a 1 day head start on booking by subscribing to their Email Newsletter. A really interesting tour especially as the Tunnels are like a time capsule with the remnants of advertisement posters from the 1960s when the tunnels were closed off.

The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 10 mm. Light levels were very low and requires 4000 ISO to get a not very fast shutter speed. Tripods are not allowed on the tour. I turn off Noise Reduction in my camera settings to get the maximum control by dealing with it in software and there was a lot of noise. A single image was processed in RAW. This was followed by Topaz DeNoise and then Topaz Clarity to recover more detail. I did a fair bit of work to remove flare from part of the picture.

This is another shot taken on a tour of abandoned platforms and behind the scenes areas of Charing Cross Underground Station. This is looking down from a ventilation tunnel to the platform as a tube train had pulled in. I had wanted to get this shot with a passenger boarding to give the image context. It was fascinating looking down from this unique viewpoint with those below oblivious.

The London Transport Museum run tours of the Station for a month once a year. These rapidly sell out and I got a 1 day head start on booking by subscribing to their Email Newsletter The tour was amazing and included the closed off platforms of a closed line, a construction tunnel and various parts of the ventilation tunnels of the operating station.

The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 13 mm. 3 raw images 2EV spacing processed with Photomatix Fusion Real Estate setting for a natural look. Light levels were very low and required 6400 ISO to get a not very fast shutter speed. Tripods are not allowed on the tour. I turn off Noise Reduction in my camera settings to get the maximum control by dealing with it in software and there was a lot of noise. Processing included Topaz DeNoise and then Topaz Clarity to recover more detail. I did some work to recover a little detail in the shadowed areas surrounding the grill.

This view was taken on the Docklands Light Railway as the train was leaving Heron Quays Station with Canary Wharf Station visible in the far distance. The railway is automatic, no driver except a supervisor who sits in one of the front passenger seats. This gives a great opportunity as there are passenger seats at the front and back of the train. The shot was taken from a rear seat. I put the camera lens flat against the window to cut out reflections.

I used shutter priority and a shutter speed of 0.3 seconds gave the best feel of movement.

The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 11mm. Taken handheld in RAW. The image was opened in Camera Raw with some initial editing. More detail was brought in with Topaz Clarity. A Saturation adjustment layer was used to bring up the reds in the sides and the yellow line using a layer mask to confine the adjustment to the areas I wanted. Extra punch and clarity was brought into the rail lines and platform using unsharp mask amount 48 and radius 48 confining the effect with a layer mask on a duplicate layer. To even out the light on the 2 sides I used a brightness/contrast adjustment layer to increase brightness on the left confining it to that area with a layer mask.

This was taken on my last day trip to London which included a visit to the newly refurbished Tottenham Court Road Underground Station. The new exits were opened in December last year. Work is ongoing for 2 more exits and links to the eventual platforms for Crossrail still under construction. This is the new south plaza exit featuring the latest in a series of artworks by the French artist Daniel Buren. Further up the escalators are enclosed by a giant glass structure.

The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 12 mm. I use one shot with RAW editing. I edited in Photoshop first using mainly the Transform tool to get the view lined up just right. I used Topaz Adjust HDR preset followed by Topaz DeNoise and Topaz Clarity.
