In 1524, the Florentine explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano sailed in service of Francis I of France and made history as the first documented European to visit the area that would become New York City. Upon his arrival, he named the new land around Upper New York Harbor ‘New Angoulême’ in reference to the family name of King Francis I. He sailed far enough into the harbor to sight the Hudson River, and he named the Bay of Santa Margarita - which is now Upper New York Bay - after Marguerite de Navarre, the elder sister of the king. In 1609, Henry Hudson arrived in Manhattan and mapped the island ..
In 1624, a Dutch fur trading settlement was established on Governors Island, marking the first permanent European presence in New Netherland. The construction of Fort Amsterdam on Manhattan Island, later known as New Amsterdam, began in 1625, and is considered the birth of New York City. Peter Stuyvesant was appointed as the last Dutch Director-General of the colony in 1647. On February 2, 1653, New Amsterdam was officially incorporated as a city. In 1674, the English purchased New Netherland from the Dutch, renaming it "New York" after the Duke of York and Albany, who would later become King James II. The Dutch Republic briefly re-captured the city in 1673, renaming it "New Orange", before ultimately ceding it to the English through the Treaty of Westminster in November 1674. Wikipedia

Relic of a former proud German Naval Helicopter Sea King Mk.41.
The Sea King Helicopter of the Marineflieger are going to be replaced by the NH90 NTH Sea Lion within the next month.
For 50 years the "King" served in the German Navy mainly as a SAR-Helicopter (Search and Rescue) for that reason there is a special painted Sea King flying for the last days in the inventory...
For me this piece of scrap metal shows perfectly the 50 years in service and it presents a special atmosphere..
A salute to the pale King still wearing the anchor with pride.
