My caption for this in the blog posting was “Standing together, in the Valley of the Shadow.” At this moment, the trees seem like family members gathered at a graveside, huddled against the bleak open plains of death.
Taken out of the sunroof of a car my son was driving. With a 1/3200 second exposure speed, you could never tell.

Used in my blog posting “Endings.” I don’t know anything about Miss Mary Mrak, but I hope her 14 years were mostly good ones. None of those trees in the background had yet begun their lives when her brief one ended.

Saw some birds while my son was driving. Camera out the sunroof, shutter-priority mode, zoom all the way in, snap away. Pick a lucky shot, crop and do some other processing in Lightroom.
My son pointed out how different this is from Ansel Adams waiting hours for just the right shot. Yup. I’m just one of thousands snapping away and refining the picture we want to see on our computer screens. And I’m happy with that.
