“Don’t look down on me!” (Get it...?)
The bokeh around the goose is partly the result of an f/2.3 aperture, but that won’t do the job with a compact camera, even one as good as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7. The effect was enhanced by some careful work with Adobe Lightroom’s adjustment brush. I set the sharpness to the adjusted region negative and also a bit darker.
When I de-emphasize a background with the adjustment brush, I usually start with a large, fully feathered brush to “paint” that region. Then I use the eraser with little or no feathering to remove the brush definition from the foreground object. For some photographers, it’s all about what comes out of the camera. I respect that. For me, though, it is the end result, and I am as proud of what I can do with the combination of this amazing little pocket camera and some computer work as those DSLR users justifiably are with what comes straight off their memory cards.

Standing at the southern edge of the U.S., a few hundred feet from Ka Lae, Hawaii. I have no shadow to speak of because this was taken right around noon just a few days after noon solar elevation was 90 degrees at this low latitude.
