ISO 80, 25 second exposure; rock wall instead of a tripod. See my blog posting “Madame Pele.” One of my personal favorites.

Labeled some of the stars that are visible in this single-exposure nighttime shot of the lava lake. See my blog posting “Madame Pele.”

The most detailed pic I have of Halemaʻumaʻu Crater in the Kīlauea summit caldera. There are some single-pixel noise spots, but I've left them without trying to ramp up the noise cancellation any further in order to preserve details of the roiling lake of lava and its plume.

ISO 1600, 1/8 second exposure at F/2.3. Image stabilization courtesy of the rock wall provided by the National Park Service: Find a niche on the rough surface that points the camera exactly where you want, set the shutter to a 2-second delay, hold the camera down firmly, press the button, and wait.

See my blog posting “Madame Pele.”

The roiling lava lake of Halemaumau Crater, in the Kilauea Caldera. Stars are visible behind the smoke plume. See my blog postings “Madame Pele” and “Healing from Hell Horror.”
