Discharged seed pods of Dog Strangling Vine (Cynanchum rossicum) in winter.
Native to Southern Europe, Dog Strangling Vine is a highly invasive plant in parts of North America . Although it is not known to strangle dogs, its thick mats of vegetation choke out native herbaceous plants and trees and threaten forest ecosystems.
