Another in my endless series of Vancouver aerials. I am finding this ongoing study to be a lot like a previous commuting ritual.

Three years ago each work day morning I walked the same stretch of the Galloping Goose trail in Victoria. Along the way I captured macro dew drop refraction shots and tried to refract landmarks in them as well. The result was my Thousand Drops of Light set of over 1300 dewdrop refraction images.

I doubt I will post 1300 Vancouver aerials, but it is a challenge to try to get the best angles. The helijet and float planes travel a limited number of what they call "transits" or paths between the two cities I live in. This means I am treated to the same opportunities over and over. The best I can do is continue the study and try to do better each time.

Hmmm...I just noticed the internal window reflections in the sky. normally I would have removed those. Editing on my old Macbook Pro is hard as the screen has dimmed over three years. I see the real output when I look on my new iMac.

Here's Vancouver harbour at daybreak shot from the balcony of our room in the Westin Bayshore. Very similar shot to the last one I posted, taken at night.

I'm looking forward to the best year ever, continuing my commute between Victoria and Vancouver and hopefully opening another office in Washington, DC by the end of the year.

Happy New Year everyone! Have a fun and safe night tonight and prosperous 2010.

You can only get the sense of the size of this building by searching for the tiny figures on the promenade.

Spot the zombies and ghosts!

Three exposures at sunset. One aspect of this I liked was the fact you can see the Canada Place sails reflected in the enormous glass windows of the new building.

Gastown peeps mark your spot with a note!

Gastown Railyards, port and heritage buildings. Water Street is the mainstreet of my neighborhood, in the lower right.

The heliport where I take off and land in Vancouver is right below the port infrastructure.

The title comes from the superimposed EXIT sign on the cranes of the port. This was taken through the glass of the observation tower at Harbour Centre.

Love my 'hood. I guess its a little magenta-y. I like it. I'm satisfied for a P&S camera.

10 second exposure. PseudoHDR process. Sharpened and de-noised. A little work on the sky as well.
