So this one was a weird one.
We were touring the Co-op farm hearing stories about how Kim Il Sung correctly guessed the number of fruit in a Persimmon tree when our guide asks us if we want to see the kindergarten kids. "Sure!" we say.
"Do you have anything to give them?"
"Well we have some Canadian coins, they might like that"
"That's useless to them, why not buy some sweets at the store"
So we buy 2 bags sweets at the store and start walking over to the kids. As we approach they're already singing a song as the teacher plays the accordion. Okay.. this is slightly setup but the kids are cute etc. We start handing out candies to the kids and say good bye.
We walk over to one of the families houses with a bag of sweets left. There is a boy about 10 years old. Our guide grabs the sweets out of my hand and gives him the whole bag!
I imagine this was all a bit of a setup so they can resell the sweets multiple times.

The guides told us school is mandatory for every child in the DPRK. It's hard to believe that; right after this visit, we saw a child of the same age carrying a large bag of rice down the road.
Actually we saw a lot of children working.
