Despite there being fifteen men from Königlich Bayerisches Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 16 in the photograph, only seven are named on the reverse, including (number 7) seventeen year old Kriegsfreiwilliger (volunteer) Reserve Infanterist Hermann Schleußinger from Freising.

Hauptmann (später Major) der Landwehr Franz Rubenbauer has been identified as "number one".

Letter penned "Im Felde" on 9.8.1917 and addressed to Forrester Otto Seifert in Sayda Sächs Erzgebirge. Einheitsstempel: Sturmkompanie Nr. 13. Postage cancelled the same day.

The author, Gefreiter Alfred Porstmann of Minenwerfer-Zug of Sturmkompanie Nr. 13 sends his regards to his nephew.

The artwork is by A(ndreas) Paul Weber, who entered the Army at the age of twenty one and was sent to the Eastern Front as an Eisenbahnpionier. He later worked as an illustrator and cartoonist for various military publications.
