Fairbanks, Alaska.
Autumn 2017.
I adopted this wheelbarrow from the dump/transfer station. When I found him/her (I don't really know the gender or how to determine it) s/he had a broken arm. I screwed a prosthetic device (an old shovel handle) to the torso and it was almost good as new. As spring progressed a lot of dog poop was thawing out of the snow below where I have my winter bird feeders. So daily I scooped up soggy feces and placed them in the wheelbarrow. I got busy as spring progressed before I noticed a bunch of sunflower sprouts coming up out of the "fertilizer". Later, after the sunflowers bloomed I moved the planter to the base of the drive, so that my neighbors could enjoy too as they walked or drove by.
One day I came home from work and the flowers were gone and many of the stalks were broken. I wondered, who would steal flowers and vandalize the stalks? I was really discouraged by that, I mean the state of things that I have no control over in this world and country is bad enough. Several days later I noticed a pile of moose nuggets nearby, I inspected the area of the wheelbarrow and yes, I found a moose track. I was happy again, knowing that some human didn't destroy my living bouquet, but that I probably provided a tasty meal to a cow moose and her little summer calf. Anyway, after a few more days several new flowers appeared. So there ya go.
