One could spend an entire day at the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area and lighthouse. The park is operated by the Bureau of Land Management; their brochure boasts: "This headland provides visitors with one of the most accessible wildlife and ocean viewing locations on the Pacific Coast. "
We found that to be true, with views of whales spouting, seals swimming and basking, cormorants and other seabirds in abundance. Also a beautiful, functional 1872 lighthouse and an informative interpretive center.
I love our public lands and the government agencies that oversee them. Our nation would be greatly impoverished without our parks.

An amazing little creature here, the wood frog is the only frog that lives north of the Arctic Circle. They are able to survive the winters by freezing solid for weeks at a time and thawing in time for spring.
