Here then is Weasel, the third addition to the kennel. I don’t believe I’ve shown her before. With Weasel my unlikely start into dog breeding/mushing actually began. For history’s sake I will mention some names, and some of you will recognize some or all of them.
Weasel is the mother of Toaster and therefore the grandmother of all of her pups, including those that are still with us, Pickle, Wrinkle, Sadie, TwoSpot, Cholie, Salty, Frodo and Ruby; and those loved ones who have passed.
Weasel was born about 1987 and had been shuffled around. She was given to us (along with a sled to use) in 1990. She was a leader and a classic Alaska husky with notable and strong bloodlines. Not that I knew or cared much about that business.
She had two litters of pups with us. The sire was Fee. In 1992 she had 7 pups, we kept two – Coco and Luka. In 1993 again she had 7 pups, we kept three – Zeno, Reto and Toaster. In 1995 we had her spayed. She died in 1999, probably of cancer.
This photo is from July 1993, she’s preggers with her second litter. The image is from a scanned print. The print is on Fuji paper and was done by a commercial lab. Evidently I’ve misplaced the negatives.
