Today I revisited my 'old stomping grounds' while visiting our friend in our previous home town.
I knew the Wood ducks have always been in this spot in Spring. They swim and nest in an area adjacent to a lake where the trees, near the shore, are flooded at this time of year. Of course as soon as I drive up, they start to swim out to the open water of the lake. I was only able to get a few quick shots through all the small trees and grasses. This was the best one I could get before it was gone.

Good sized Iberian Lynx (Lince iberico) male on a rabbit hideout. He saw two rabbits there, and he knows they are still nearby. A very patient hunter, he took about 3 minutes but he came away with a rabbit. In 2009 there were less than 100 Iberian Lynx left in the wild. Now there are over 1800. A true conservation success story, enabled by habitat restoration, an excellent captive breeding program and stabilization of the wild rabbit population.
