I've just come back from a very quick long weekend in Melbourne. This was our last little trip before the baby is due in August. I had heard about the lunar eclipse occurring on the 16th of June. Unfortunately, health and fatigue had the best of me and I managed to wander the streets of Melbourne only at the very tail of the eclipse. This was part of a short timelapse with the flinders street station as a point of foreground interest.

Phillip Island
On one of our days in Victoria last weekend, the rain was constant so we headed further south to the coast. I had always wanted to see the Pinnacles of Phillip Island and so we headed there. This picture probably doesn't represent the conditions very well but it was blowing a gale with bursts of downpours, seaspray everywhere and very shifting and changeable light. Tough to get any shots with filters involved but I managed a few compositions while spending the later afternoon there. Including this one:

Phillip Island
A Long exposure pano of 6 shots from the same location as the previous shot. Each exposure 60 seconds - unfortunately too much light on the right of frame but I think I still like the overall feel of the image. That blue sky pretty much lasted another 5 minutes before another squall came over. Just whacky wild weather that day! Once again, apologies for the lack of flickr correspondence - old wedding clients who have just decided on final images are creating some extra out of hours work!

Melbourne Lanes

During the few hours I had on a frosty Melbourne morning, I shot the eclipse then wandered around the southbank and CBD while waiting for a decent hour before I would head back to our free hotel on little bourke street. It just so happened that this lane caught my attention just off the Bourke Street Mall. The walls are so dense with graffiti, I wonder how many layers of paint and urban history have been laid down over the years.

Sherbrooke Forest
Dandenong Ranges.
Sherbrooke forest is a great place to wander in winter for flowing water, dense greenery and tall mountain ash. Despite the constant rain, Marianne and I explored the area for a few hours. The cameras and filters didn't fare too well getting wet the moment we even thought of taking them out but I kind of like the blurred effect that I ended up with while taking some of these shots.
