Just arrived in Kathmandu 36 hours ago and slept off jetlag. Since this is the third time I've visited this city, I went walking randomly north out of the city this afternoon to a district called Bajalu. It's always good to get out of the completely tourist dominated Thamel. I sat next to this man accepting tea and smokes from people for a few minutes. He let me snap a few photos of him without question. Earlier in the day, there were those dressed up ceremoniously looking for tourists to pay for a photo to be taken. Life can be so different only a few kilometres apart. We saw no foreign tourists in this part of the city. We were only spoken to by one group of locals who thought we were Korean.

This image was taken in Kathmandu's Durbar square where there is a strong contingent of visiting pigeons. Children love to run through them scattering them from time to time before they settle again to eat the grain and corn laid out for them constantly. Nothing from me for 11 days while trekking the annapurnas now! see you all later!

More on the story behind this shot later. Marianne and I ended up sleeping under stars (unplanned) on our night at the Annapurna Base Camp. During the night, conditions changed including complete clarity at one stage. Mountains from left to right are: annapurna South and annpurna I.

This shot was taken on the first day of the Annapurna Sanctuary trail. The altitude was still very low at approximately 1500m and every bit of usable land tilled. We wouldn't see mountains until the next day but the scenery was still no less breathtaking in a way that I didn't really expect.

Writing this from a chinese restaurant in Pokhara this time. This is another shot from our amazing night under the stars on the last night of ascent to the Annapurna Base Camp. At this stage of the night, full moon was blazing on the mountain - the 6993m tall Macchapuchre holy mountain which dominates the surrounding area.
