Αρχαιολογικός χώρος Επιδαύρου

Μνημείο παγκόσμιας πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς της UNESCO

Σε μια μικρή κοιλάδα της Πελοποννήσου ο αρχαιολογικός χώρος της Επιδαύρου εκτείνεται σε διαφορετικά επίπεδα. Η λατρεία του Ασκληπιού ξεκίνησε εκεί για πρώτη φορά τον 6ο π.Χ. αιώνα, αλλά τα κύρια μνημεία, ειδικότερα το Θέατρο το οποίο θεωρείται ως ένα από τα πιο αμιγή αριστουργήματα της Ελληνικής αρχιτεκτονικής χρονολογούνται από τον 4ο αιώνα. Ο ευρύς αρχαιολογικός χώρος συνιστά φόρο τιμής στις ιαματικές λατρείες της Ελληνικής και Ρωμαϊκής περιόδου με ναούς και νοσοκομειακά κτίρια αφιερωμένα στους θεούς τους.

In a small valley of the Peloponnese the archaeological site of Epidaurus extends to different levels. The worship of Asclepius began there for the first time in the 6th century BC. but the main monuments, especially the Theater, which is considered as one of the most pure masterpieces of Greek architecture, date back to the 4th century. The wide archaeological site is a tribute to the healing cults of the Greek and Roman ages with temples and hospital buildings devoted to their gods.
