Η Βατούσα είναι ένας από τους πέντε κηρυγμένους από το υπουργείο Πολιτισμού παραδοσιακούς οικισμούς της Λέσβου και ανάμεσα στα αξιοθέατά της κορυφαία θέση έχει ο Ι.Ναός κοιμήσεως της Θεοτόκου (1850) χτισμένος εξ ολοκλήρου με ντόπια κόκκινη πελεκητή πέτρα, αξιόλογης & ιδιαίτατης αρχιτεκτονικής πάνω στο βασικό σχέδιο της Βασιλικής άνευ τρούλου.
Ένα πολύ περίεργο περιστύλιο στεγασμένο με όροφο περιβάλλει ολόκληρη την δυτική πλευρά του ναού και την μισή νότια.Εκεί καταλήγει σε ένα πολύ σπάνιο για Ι.Ναό εξώστη όπου τελείται η ακολουθία της Αναστάσεως.
Απέναντι ακριβώς ορθώνεται το περίτεχνο καμπαναριό του ναού το οποίο δεσπόζει της πλατείας του χωριού.
Στα αριστερά εικονίζεται επίσης το σπανίας αρχιτεκτονικής ωραιότητος νεοκλασσικό αρχοντικό Γώγου( τέλη του 19ου αιώνος) το οποίο λειτουργεί ως πνευματικό κέντρο και μουσειακός χώρος.
Ο δημιουργός του αρχιμανδρίτης Γεώργιος Γώγος υπήρξε σημαντικός ευεργέτης του χωριού
Vatousa is one of the five Lesvos island’s of Northen Aegean sea,Hellas (Greece) traditional settlements,declared by the Greek Ministry of Culture,
Its houses are mostly built with the characteristic local dark red chiseled stone or with multicolor coatings.
Its top attraction is the church of the Virgin Mary (1850), built entirely with local dark red chiseled stone, remarkable and very special architecture’s over the main Design of the Royal Domeless.
A very strange for orthodox architecture peristyle roofed by a floor surrounds the entire west side of the temple and half south. It ends up in a very rare for orthodox church balcony where the sequence of the Resurrection takes place.
Just opposite is elevated the ornate bell tower of the temple, which dominates the square of the village.
To the left is depictured also the rare architectural beauty's Mansion house of Gogos (ends of 19th century) functioning as a spiritual center and museum space. Its creator, archimandrite Grigorios Gogos (1828-1898) was an important benefactor of Vatousa.
