In poetry, autumn has often been associated with melancholy.

The possibilities of summer are gone, and the chill of winter is on the horizon. Skies turn grey, and many folks turn inward, both physically and mentally.

It also represents maturity.

Exif for the shots: ISO 100 + 320 + 800 ; 1/125 ; f2.8 + f4 ; @100mm

This is almost a microscopic shot, I guess. Lichen growing on a stone.
Handheld @100mm - f/2.8 - ISO 400 - 1/100

Lichens are composite organisms consisting of a symbiotic association of a fungus with a photosynthetic partner.

Lichens occur in some of the most extreme environments on earth — arctic tundra, hot deserts, rocky coasts, and toxic slag heaps. However, they are also abundant on leaves and branches in rain forests and temperate woodland, on bare rock, including walls and gravestones, and on exposed soil surfaces in otherwise mesic habitats.

They are widespread and may be long-lived.

However, many are also vulnerable to environmental disturbance, and may be useful to scientists in assessing the effects of air pollution, ozone depletion, and metal contamination.

Lichens have also been used in making dyes and perfumes, as well as in traditional medicines.

These are grains of sand on seaweed by the seashore. They look like precious stones, and yet they are minuscule. Quite truly though, many things of infinite value are of very small size.

What would you like to have in the same amount as the grains of sand on the seashore?

Exif: ISO 100 ; f/2.8 ; 1/100 ; @100mm
