A most magnificent glacier, that of Vatnajökull, which is in size larger than all other European glaciers together, is reflected on a little pond where grass straws grow.

Autumnal gold in a blue bundle. Quite a nice combination of colors.

The animals in the distances turned out to be, not reindeer, as we had hoped for, but sheep. Sheep are cool animals as well.

Most auroras occur between 90 and 130 km above sea level. The Northern and Southern Lights dance simultaneously and are almost mirror images of each other.

The way the aurora works is a lot like a neon sign, except that in the aurora, the conducting gas is in the upper layer of the atmosphere, instead of a glass tube, and the current circulates along magnetic field lines instead of copper wires.

This display was slow-paced.

So you're walking around on this beautiful beach, and you see a beautiful pebble. You pick it up, and take it home as a little memento of that nice evening stroll.

But if the nice pebble actually weights more than you, then the only solution is digital rock-collection :) ... aka "take a picture of it" :) And here's one that I liked a a lot.

The museum at Ósvör (Bolungarvík, Iceland) is a reconstructed fishing station, recreated as a memorial of almost forgotten Icelandic industrial activity.

As you can see, it's a turf construction. Icelandic turf houses were the solution to a harsh climate and the relative difficulty in obtaining construction materials in sufficient quantities. They offered superior insulation compared to buildings made solely of wood or stone.

I can still feel the smell of the place. The wood of old, humidity... It was actually a very comfortable feeling inside the hut.
