Rhingias are familiar flies, especially because R. campestris is very common in Northwestern Europe. R. campestris occurs about everywhere, and can be found foraging on flowers with deep nectar.
The larvae of Rhingia campestris live in cow dung, and the larvae of the other species most probably also live in dung of large herbivores.
