The Netherlands, near Beverwijk.
When the North Sea Canal was built (1876) by digging a channel through the old IJ Bay, it was lined with dikes, after which the remaining portions of the IJ Bay were reclaimed and turned into polders. These images are made in the Wijkermeerpolder, one of the reclaimed polders. So, a 150 years ago, a salt water lake, directly connected with the "Zuiderzee", was located here.

The Netherlands-Beverwijk. "Dolers" is the name artist Olivier Rijcken gives to the labyrint-like patterns he makes on several spots, in different materials and all sizes.
Dolers represent the connectedness of things, finding your way in the world, and transformation. Olivier uses ecological materials where possible.
The work on the image was made on the occasion of a land art project "The heaven above the polder", in polder Wijkermeer.
