The Netherlands - Almere.
Details of the Almere Solar Island Project. The solar island provides the residents of the Noorderplassen West neighbourhood with renewable heating.
Covering an area of 15,000 m2 (over three football pitches), including about 7,000 m2 of solar collectors, the solar island is unique in the Netherlands. The solar collectors on the solar island use sun rays to heat water. This water is pumped directly into the district heating network, which supplies 2,700 homes with heating and warm tap water. Since 2010 the island provides 10% of the neighbourhood’s heating requirements, which is sufficient for one million showers a year.

Netherlands, Urk.
Urk is a village in the Flevoland province in the central Netherlands.
Urk is first mentioned in historical records dating to the 10th century, when it was still an island in the Almere, a lake that would become part of the Zuiderzee in the 13th century after a series of incursions by the North Sea.
In 1939, a dike from the mainland to Urk ended its island status, just as the Afsluitdijk project was changing the salt water Zuiderzee surrounding Urk to the less saline IJsselmeer. Later in the 20th century, seabed areas surrounding Urk were reclaimed from the sea and became the Noordoostpolder.
From 1617 a coal fire was used for the local fishermen as well as for the ships sailing from Amsterdam to the North Sea. The current lighthouse tower was built in 1845 as a round brick tower attached to a keeper's house. A Fresnel lens is still in use.

Netherlands, Lelystad.
"Exposure" by Antony Gormley is a giant man made of iron. The hughe statue is a 25 meters high landmark and watches over the IJsselmeer lake. Due to the shape, locals nicknamed the statue "the squatting man" or "the pooping man".

The Netherlands
The Houtribdike between Enkhuizen and Lelystad is one of the Dutch dikes that needed to be strengthened, on this location with sandy flanks. At the same time a new sanctuary for fish and birds was build, next to the dike, in lake Marken: Trintelzand. Far away in the background and in the morning haze lies Enkhuizen.
