The Netherlands-Polder Westzaan
Wild Angelica (Gewone engelwortel-Angelica sylvestris) is common in the moist reedlands of nature reserve De Reef, part of Polder Westzaan. I sometimes use an unusual perpective on man-sized plants and photograph them from above. Dedicated to Ruth van Crevel, a botanical photographer and illustrator I admire. Netherlands, Westzaan.
Flowering Hemp-agrimony (Koninginnekruid-Eupatorium cannabinum) and Broadleaf cattail (Grote lisdodde-Typha latifolia) popping out of a reed bed. The flowers of Hemp-agrimony are visited by many types of insects. The rhizomes of Broadleaf cattail are edible after cooking and removing the skin, while peeled stems and leaf bases can be eaten raw or cooked. Young flower spikes are edible as well. Bon appétit!
Image made with kite and camera.
