The Netherlands - North Sea coast
After World War II The Netherlands were left with around two million landmines and lots of unexploded bombs, shells and other explosives, especially in the coastal regions. In violation of the Geneva Convention about 7.000 German prisoners of war were used for mine clearance work. On this location in a dune valley south of Egmond the gathered explosives were detonated, leaving the landscape with a series of still clearly visible crater pools. Couldn't think of a better way to spend Christmas Day and make some aerial images there, with kite and camera (attached to the kite's line and just launched). © Tom Kisjes
