The Netherlands-Bakkum-Noord
Late afternoon view on Zeerijdtsdijkje, a relatively intact inner dune border fed by seepage water from the nearby younger and higher dunes. The aim of land manager Landschap Noord-Holland was to renovate this area -a part of the so called Clean Water Valley- by improving the flow of the seepage. And also by creating a more natural water management; the water being held in wintertime, as a buffer for the increasingly frequent summer droughts. Furthermore the overmanured upper soil layer was excavated in favor of the poor soil underneath and thus in favor of rare plant species and biodiversity as a whole. The area is accessible for walkers, but not during the breeding season. The name of this area refers to an old, modest dike that was dug off long ago. What remained is a grassy path (on the right side of this image, next to the private properties. Far away in the background goes the fast train to Amsterdam and also the village Limmen is visible. Image made with kite and camera (attached to the kite's line). © Tom Kisjes
