An early morning view on Noordpolderzijl, a hamlet at the sea dyke of the Dutch province of Groningen. Noordpolderzijl is named after the "zijl" (sluice) in the dyke that protects the Noordpolder against the (Wadden) sea. The original sluice was built in 1811, when the Noordpolder was made dry. At the other side of the dyke lies a salt marsh ánd the harbour of Noordpolderzijl, which is the smallest seaport in the Netherlands, only accessible during flood, via a narrow channel named Noordpoldermude.
