Krakow is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland and is a popular tourist location, containing a World Heritage Site in the historic centre. Rynek Krakowski, the central square dates back to the 13th century and it is the largest (200 by 200m) medieval town square in Europe.

St. Mary's Basilica is a Brick Gothic church re-built in the 14th century (originally built in the early 13th century), adjacent to the Main Market Square in Kraków. Standing 80m (262ft) tall, it is particularly famous for its wooden altarpiece carved by Veit Stoss.

The Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków was founded in 1783. It is located east of the Old City and occupies 9.6 hectares.
