Apparently Hollywood Star Jean Simmons holidayed here in 1947.........
Having uploaded the colour original and a desaturated version it seemed only fair to upload a mono version. I guess this is more extreme but I'm really not sure which version I prefer.
For many years I've watch Art Deco Grand Hotel on the Sandown seafront disintegrate slowly. For obvious reasons we've not been over to the Isle of Wight this year but hopefully it's been saved. Somehow I doubt it.......
No sign of it from the outside but the basement of the hotel housed the Control Centre for the whole PLUTO (PipeLine Under The Ocean) operation on the Isle of Wight.
Operation Pluto (Pipe-Lines Under The Ocean) was a Second World War operation by British engineers, oil companies and armed forces to construct undersea oil pipelines under the English Channel between England and France in support of Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944.

Another beach hut from the Sandown sea front, albeit beach shack might be a better description as this one has more of a DIY feel.
