Finally getting round to uploading photos taken last May during my trip to Florence.Three days wasn't really long enough to see the city properly but I can't complain, the trip was a prize for winning the 'Architecture and people' category of the bi-annual Architects Eye photography competition : www.architectseye.co.uk/

If you're wondering why there's not much depth of field in this f11 shot it because the effect has been created in Photoshop. Not quite as good as a real tilt/shift lens but I don't have to lug a heavy £1000 lens around so it'll do for me.......

I thought I'd try a sepia version of this fake tilt/shift shot of the famous Florence Cathedral Duomo from the Palazzo Vecchio clock tower. I think although it lacks the impact of the colour version maybe the illusion of depth is enhanced as you don't get the 'one third blue, two thirds tiled roof' which created such a definite transition. Anyone agree with me ?

I was lucky when I visited Florence last May to have wonderful conditions for photography for the majority of my stay. There's a lovely clarity to these shots of the Cathedral from the clock tower of the Palazzo Vecchio in particular.

This was one of those key shots I knew I wanted to get when I visited Florence. I'm pretty pleased with it, even down to the way the little bit of cloud adds some depth. I think maybe I personally prefer the dramatic mono conversion below but I know in terms of licensing images I rarely get requests for monochrome images.
