Getting tired of these yet ? Just a few more to come...... I'd been waiting years to visit Sketch to take these photos so please excuse my photographic enthusiasm.......

For those intrigued by the restaurant you can take a look here : sketch.london/venue_Gallery_David_Shrigley.php?menu=1#gsc...

From Wikipedia : "9 Conduit is a Grade II listed townhouse in Mayfair, designed by Scottish Architect James Wyatt in 1779 as the private residence of James Viner. Following that the building hosted a bizarre variety of societies and institutions that, according to some accounts, included cyclists, balloonists and psychologists, as well as the Suffragette movement in the early 20th century, RIBA and Christian Dior.

In 1887–1909 Conduit Street was converted into the headquarters of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and still retains its plaque and crest in the entrance hall. During this time RIBA/AA hosted a competition to re-design the 18th century façade design and although this was never realized, the RIBA archive at the V&A retains some of the competition proposal drawings.

The townhouse continued its interesting design legacy and history in the mid-20th century to become Christian Dior’s London atelier, within which Dior housed his collections. During this time in the 1970s the listed interior was modified by the seminal mid century architect and leading Pop interior designer and furniture maker Max Clendinning (b. 1924) who designed cupboards, cubicles and display cases for Dior’s ready to wear clothes and accessories. To combine the old and new, everything (including the walls, ceilings and woodwork) was painted a uniform mid-grey with a grey velvet Wilton carpet and grey uniformed attendants to “throw the clothes into sharper relief, and seems to conform with the classical, refined elegance of the House of Dior itself.” This austere style of monochromatic design was developed from his seminal 1960s signature white on white designs that marked the peak of British Modernism.

When the building was taken over by Sketch the interior was re-designed by Mazouz and Paris-based designer and sculptor Noé Duchaufour Lawrance. Several other international designers were commissioned for signature pieces, which are featured throughout sketch."

This 8mm fisheye shot was one of a number taken during my fourth visit to the Herzog & de Meuron designed Blavatnik School of Government.

Not normally open the the public, this University of Oxford hold Open Days a couple of times a year when they seem to enjoy showing their building off to everyone. There seems to be a lot of sense in this as the percieved impression I get is that no-one is a fan of the blank spaceship like exterior but everyone loves the free flowing spaces of the interior.

From Wikipedia : "The Blavatnik School of Government is located in the University of Oxford's Radcliffe Observatory Quarter on Woodstock Road, however its main entrance is on Walton Street. The building is designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron to promote open discussion, interaction and collaboration. The central forum is inspired by the idea of openness and transparency and connects all the floors together. Construction work started in autumn 2013, after some controversy, and ended in late 2015. The building is controlled by a combination of systems and technology that helps minimise its environmental impact.

The building is taller than Carfax Tower in the centre of Oxford, this dominating the site and causing opposition to the scheme by local residents in the Jericho district of the city and elsewhere. The site is immediately to the south of the café/bar Freud, in the historic 1836 Greek revival St Paul's Church on Walton Street. The scheme has been opposed by the cafe's owner, David Freud, due to its size compared to the church building. The site is also opposite the classical Oxford University Press building. In Spring 2013, a public meeting was held in St Barnabas Church and the building was described as "a concrete marshmallow".

Mission accomplished........

I normally photograph the University of Oxford Encaenia ceremony procession but this year I was particularly keen as Film Director Martin Scorsese was one of the recipients of an honorary degree.

Despite being stood in the wrong place, and having to deal with difficult lighting conditions, I'm pretty pleased with this one.

From Wikipedia : "Martin Charles Scorsese (born November 17, 1942) is an American director, producer, screenwriter, actor and film historian, whose career spans more than 50 years. Scorsese's body of work addresses such themes as Sicilian-American identity, Roman Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption, faith, machismo, modern crime, and gang conflict. Many of his films are also known for their depiction of violence and liberal use of profanity.

Part of the New Hollywood wave of filmmaking, he is widely regarded as one of the most significant and influential filmmakers in cinematic history. In 1990, he founded The Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to film preservation, and in 2007 he founded the World Cinema Foundation. He is a recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award for his contributions to the cinema, and has won an Academy Award, a Palme d'Or, Cannes Film Festival Best Director Award, Silver Lion, Grammy Award, Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and DGA Awards."

One #Photo24 dilemma is always where to head for sunset. This was particularly the case this year as it looked like we might actually have a sunset unlike most of the previous years events.

Despite some doubts about a tip off as to a promising spot on the riverfront in Bermondsey it proved to be well worth the trip as the view from the riverfront was straight along the Thames to Tower Bridge.

Click here for more shots taken during this, and previous years, Photo24 events : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157667520181380

From Wikipedia "Bermondsey is a town in the London Borough of Southwark, England, 2.5 miles (4.0 km) southeast of Charing Cross. To the west of Bermondsey lies Southwark, to the east Rotherhithe and Deptford, to the south Walworth and Peckham, and to the north the City of London and Whitechapel.

To the east of Tower Bridge, Bermondsey's 3 1⁄2 mi (5.6 km) of riverside were lined with warehouses and wharves, of which the best known is Butler's Wharf. They suffered severe damage in World War II bombing and became redundant in the 1960s following the collapse of the river trade. After standing derelict for some years, many of the wharves were redeveloped under the aegis of the London Docklands Development Corporation during the 1980s. They have now been converted into a mixture of residential and commercial accommodations and have become some of the most upmarket and expensive properties in London. In 1997, US President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Tony Blair visited the area to dine at the Le Pont de la Tour restaurant at Butler's Wharf. "

Having shot a lot of photos of the #OxfordComicCon #StarWars characters from across the street with my DSLR and long lens I put my camera away, crossed the road and asked the one remaining #Shadowtrooper if I could take a shot with my phone. He obliged and interestingly although shot with an #iphone it's one of my favourites from the morning.

As you may have guessed, it's fair to say there's been a bit of Instagram tweaking involved here.....

By the way does anyone know how to download images from Instagram ? At some point my settings have changed and it's no longer saving 'Instagrammed' to my Camera Roll. To get this on here I had to take a screen shot and then upsize it from a relatively small image.
