I'm ending the year with a slight reworking of one of my favourite photos taken back in the Summer. This spiral stair can be found in the Bankside Citizen M hotel, for this version I've cloned away a steel support to make the image more abstract.

From the Hotels website : 'citizenM is a new breed of hotel now in Amsterdam, Glasgow and London, and coming soon to New York, Paris, and a city near you. citizenM welcomes the mobile citizens of the world - the suits, weekenders, explorers, affair-havers and fashion-grabbers. To put it another way: anyone who travels frequently and loves affordable luxury. Chances are, that means you.'

Those that visit my photostream regularly were probably expecting a mono version of this shot of the Switch House so it would be a shame to disappoint them.

Click here to see more shots of Herzog & de Meuron buildings : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157622982082489

From Wikipedia : "A ten storey tower, 65 metres high from ground level, was built above the oil tanks.

The original western half of the Switch House was demolished to make room for the tower and then rebuilt around it with large gallery spaces and access routes between the main building and the new tower on level 1 (ground level) and level 4. The new galleries on level 4 have natural top lighting. A bridge built across the turbine hall on level 4 to provides an upper access route.

The new building opened to the public on 17 June 2016.

The design, again by Herzog & de Meuron, has been controversial. It was originally designed with a glass stepped pyramid, but this was amended to incorporate a sloping façade in brick latticework (to match the original power-station building) despite planning consent to the original design having been previously granted by the supervising authority.

The extension provides 22,492 square metres of additional gross internal area for display and exhibition spaces, performance spaces, education facilities, offices, catering and retail facilities as well as a car parking and a new external public space."

An 8mm fisheye shot from the Bjarke Ingels Group Serpentine Pavilion in Hyde Park. I squeezed a quick visit in during this years #Photo24.

I know it's quite difficult to work out exactly what is happening with shot but believe me or not that was my intention..........

From Wikipedia : "Every year since 2000 the Serpentine Gallery has commissioned a temporary summer pavilion by a leading architect. The series presents the work of an international architect or design team who has not completed a building in England at the time of the Gallery’s invitation. Each Pavilion is completed within six months and is situated on the Gallery’s lawn for three months for the public to explore. Cecil Balmond has been a creative force behind Serpentine Pavilion programme."

Having had a little longer to consider this shot of the Olafur Eliasson 'Your Rainbow panorama' I think maybe it's better cropped to a square format ? I'm not sure the top and bottom of the frame add much but I'd be interested to know what you think ?

Click here for more shots of Olafur Eliasson's work : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/sets/72157652107096126

From Wikipedia : 'Olafur's artwork Your rainbow panorama consists of a circular, 150 metres (490 ft) long and 3 metres (9.8 ft) wide corridor made of glass in every color of the spectrum. It has a diameter of 52 metres (171 ft) and is mounted on 3.5 metres (11 ft) high columns on top of the roof of the ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum in Aarhus. It opened in May 2011. Visitors can walk through the corridor and have a panoramic view of the city. Construction cost 60 million Danish kroner and was funded by the Realdania foundation.

Olafur's idea was chosen in 2007 among five other proposals in a bidding process by a panel of judges. At night the artwork is lit from the inside by spotlights in the floor.'

A sepia tinted, square cropped variation on a theme but when presented with a scene such as this one of the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora cloister it would be rude not too......

Click here to see photos from my trip to Lisbon as well as a previous trip to Portugal : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157605502948784

From Wikipedia : "The Church or Monastery of São Vicente de Fora; meaning "Monastery of St. Vincent Outside the Walls" is a 17th-century church and monastery in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. It is one of the most important monasteries and mannerist buildings in the country. The monastery also contains the royal pantheon of the Braganza monarchs of Portugal.

The original Monastery of São Vicente de Fora was founded around 1147 by the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques, for the Augustinian Order. The Monastery, built in Romanesque style outside the city walls, was one of the most important monastic foundations in mediaeval Portugal. It is dedicated to Saint Vincent of Saragossa, patron saint of Lisbon, whose relics were brought from the Algarve to Lisbon in the 12th century."
