Another sepia portrait of model Andrea, one of my favourites from the recent #Nikon100 London #NikonMeetups fashion shoot at a fabulous location in West London ( www.shootfactory.co.uk/uk-locations/randolph-london-w9/ ).

My shots might differ from other people's as I didn't use the studio lights provided as my hotshoe was damaged and I couldn't fit the IR commander unit. As a result I had to shoot using only the available natural light, something that has added a bit of extra drama to the shots (and created a bit of a headache in post-production thanks to the extreme contrast......).

Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the Nikon Centenary celebrations the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots, some in genres I've not much experience.

Taken a couple of days ago, this is a shot of two people sat on the glass floor of the Hive, an art installation at Kew Gardens. This is an iphone shot, no doubt there'll be some DSLR shots to follow once I've had a chance to process them. That being said, I'm pretty impressed with the quality of this shot.....

From the Kew Gardens website, 'The Hive is an immersive sound and visual experience. The lights you see and the sounds you hear inside the Hive are triggered by bee activity in a real beehive at Kew.

The intensity of the sounds and light change constantly, echoing that of the real beehive. The multi award-winning Hive was inspired by scientific research into the health of honeybees. It is a visual symbol of the pollinators’ role in feeding the planet and the challenges facing bees today.'

You might think there's not much difference between this image and one of my uploads from yesterday....... you'd be right, essentially I've darkened it down a bit to make the gold more luminous and then I've flipped half the image to make it perfectly symmetrical.......

From Wikipedia : "Wat Pho (Thai: วัดโพธิ์), also spelt Wat Po, is a Buddhist temple complex in the Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok, Thailand. It is on Rattanakosin Island, directly south of the Grand Palace. Known also as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, its official name is Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn (Thai: วัดพระเชตุพนวิมลมังคลารามราชวรมหาวิหาร; rtgs: Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimonmangkhlaram Ratchaworamahawihan; The more commonly known name, Wat Pho, is a contraction of its older name Wat Photaram (Thai: วัดโพธาราม; rtgs: Wat Photharam).

The temple is first on the list of six temples in Thailand classed as the highest grade of the first-class royal temples. It is associated with King Rama I who rebuilt the temple complex on an earlier temple site, and became his main temple where some of his ashes are enshrined. The temple was later expanded and extensively renovated by Rama III. The temple complex houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including a 46 m long reclining Buddha. The temple is considered the earliest centre for public education in Thailand, and the marble illustrations and inscriptions placed in the temple for public instructions has been recognised by UNESCO in its Memory of the World Programme. It houses a school of Thai medicine, and is also known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage which is still taught and practiced at the temple."

Oxford OPT Open Doors uploads complete but before I return to my Thailand shots I'll upload some images taken during the recent #Nikon100 London #Nikonmeetups.

Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the Nikon Centenary celebrations the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots, my favourite of which I'll upload over the new few days.

For those wanting to see some more photos from the day now I've uploaded a selection over on my Twitter account : twitter.com/dgphotos

My group started the day with a street photography workshop led by Leon Neal and Kiran Bhamra Cox. Given the West End was surprisingly quiet at 9am on a Saturday morning we improvised. This shot is of one of the other workshop participants who very sportingly agreed to walk back and forth through some pools of reflected light, vaping as he went.

Apologies to regular visitors to my photostream that have already seen and uncropped as well as a flipped version of this Science Museum shot but I think the sq format version is probably my favourite.

This curvaceous structure at the opened Winton Gallery at the Science Museum might be very eye-catching and photogenic but does rather use up quite a lot of the floor space.......

From the Science Museum website : "Mathematics: The Winton Gallery is the first permanent public museum exhibition designed by Zaha Hadid Architects anywhere in the world. The gallery is also the first of Zaha Hadid Architects’ projects to open in the UK since Dame Zaha Hadid’s sudden death in March 2016. The late Dame Zaha first became interested in geometry while studying mathematics at university. Mathematics and geometry have a strong connection with architecture and she continued to examine these relationships throughout each of her projects; with mathematics always central to her work. As Dame Zaha said, 'When I was growing up in Iraq, math was an everyday part of life. We would play with math problems just as we would play with pens and paper to draw – math was like sketching.'"
