Having produced a 4x4 grid of the original shot ( www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/15530085972/ ) of the MAKE Architects Cube, I thought I'd take it one step further and produce a 16x16 grid further enhancing the repetitive nature of facade.
To disguise this I've darkened down the bottom right-hand corner. I did consider swapping a few squares around just to mix things up a bit but decided I like the way I'd turned something so seemingly random into something to repetitive. I'm wondering if this would look good as a large print, maybe filling a wall Andreas Gursky style.......

From Wikipedia : "The cubic dimensions of the main design element lends to the name of the development. However, the building consists of three stages with the cube being one of them. The building is constructed of concrete, with two fire-fighting cores rising up either side of the building.
Birmingham-born Ken Shuttleworth, who designed London's Gherkin building with Norman Foster, has stated that the design evokes the city's industrial heritage.
The cladding for me tries to reflect the heavy industries of Birmingham which I remember as a kid, the metal plate works and the car plants - and the inside is very crystalline, all glass; that to me is like the jewellery side of Birmingham, the lightbulbs and delicate stuff - it tries to reflect the essence of Birmingham in the building itself."

The Cube by Make Architects.
The roof terrace of the new Library of Birmingham not only provides a great outdoor space right in the middle of the city but it provides great views out across a city where previously I can't think of any public viewing access.
As is often the case I was travelling without a tripod but the handrail of the terrace proved handy for helping me get some dusk shots.

I'm sure the views from the apartments in the Vauxhall Tower are great but from what I've read most of the apartments were sold off plan to foreign investors so somewhat ironically I imagine many are sat empty........

From Wikipedia : "St George Wharf is a riverside development in Lambeth, London, England, located on the southern bank of the River Thames beside Vauxhall Bridge.
The 93,000-square-metre (1,000,000 sq ft) mixed-use development is located between the Vauxhall Cross road junction and river, and is near Vauxhall station. The River Effra, one of the Thames' many underground tributaries, empties into the main river close-by.
The development comprises over 1,100 apartments, as well as offices, retail units and restaurants. It was designed by the architecture practice Broadway Malyan. It has twice won the Architects' Journal's 'Worst building in the world' award."

The spiral stair in the central atrium of the 3XN Architects designed Museum of Liverpool.
Offset circular atria are obviously the 'in thing' at the moment, in addition to the Museum of Liverpool, I've seen them recently on drawings for Birmingham Central Library and the Herzog & de Meuron Blavatnik School of Governace in Oxford.

Back to London and here's another shot of the Make Architects designed 5 Broadgate development in the City of London for UBS Bank.
I think it was Corbusier that called houses 'machines for living', to me this building looks like a machine for making money........

For anyone that has any shots of this building or any others by MAKE Architects it would be great if you could join the group I started for their work and add your shots : www.flickr.com/groups/1439695@N24/
From MAKE Architects website : "Our world-class headquarters for financial services firm UBS have raised the bar for office and workplace design. We worked with developer British Land to design a functional, pragmatic space that allows UBS to consolidate its London workforce for the first time. The result – a 13-storey ‘groundscraper’ – is visually innovative and represents a powerful vote of confidence in the City. Furthermore, it’s become a catalyst for regeneration in the Broadgate area.
We based our bold design on the form of a perfectly machined metal object – a symbol of the building’s internal function. The main facade is primarily constructed from stainless steel, which unifies the surface, establishes a strong presence, and reflects its bespoke nature and single occupier. This sense of robustness is rigorously carried through to the detailing, materiality and finishes, reflecting an architectural language of quality and precision. Inside, an ultra-rational arrangement of the structure and cores provides four large trading floors that can accommodate up to 3,000 desks, plus seven levels of offices."
