I'm not entirely happy with the processing of this shot of the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, the contrast range of the shot has proved challenging even for my Nikon D300s. I think I need to revisit the RAW file and have another go.

The contrast between the dark and atmospheric Lower Chapel of Sainte-Chapelle and the light filled Upper Chapel makes the spectacular Gothic Architecture even more dramatic.

From Wikipedia : "The royal chapel was a prime exemplar of the developing culminating phase of Gothic architectural style called "Rayonnant" that achieved a sense of weightlessness. Its architect is generally thought to have been Pierre de Montereau. It stands squarely upon a lower chapel, which served as parish church for all the inhabitants of the palace, which was the seat of government. The king was later recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church.

The most visually beautiful aspects of the chapel, considered the best of their type in the world, are its stained glass, for which the stonework is a delicate framework, and rose windows, added to the upper chapel in the fifteenth century."

Not the best of timing as it looks like these girls are both scratchings their bums but nevertheless I think it's one of my better shots of the Jerónimos Monastery........

From Wikipedia : "The Jerónimos Monastery or Hieronymites Monastery, (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos), is a monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome located near the shore of the parish of Belém, in the Lisbon Municipality, Portugal.

The monastery is one of the most prominent examples of the Portuguese Late Gothic Manueline style of architecture in Lisbon. It was classified a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the nearby Tower of Belém, in 1983.....

The church and the monastery, like the nearby Torre de Belém and Padrão dos Descobrimentos, symbolise the Portuguese Age of Discovery and are among the main tourist attractions of Lisbon. In 1983, UNESCO formally designated the Monastery of the Hieronymites and Tower of Belém as a World Heritage Site.

When Portugal joined the European Economic Community, the formal ceremonies were held in the cloister of the monument (1985)."
