In a break with the now familiar architecture / travel shots here's a shot of a Comic Con attendee dressed as Harley Quinn from Batman / Suicide Squad.

By coincidence hundreds of cosplay fans were exiting the adjacent NEC Hall to the Photography Show just as I was leaving. They certainly made for colourful and varied photographic sibject matter (unlike most of the Photography Show attendess......).

From Wikipedia : "Harley Quinn (Harleen Frances Quinzel) is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm, and first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series in September 1992. She later appeared in DC Comics' Batman comic books, with the character's first comic book appearance in The Batman Adventures #12 (September 1993).

Harley Quinn is the frequent accomplice and lover of the Joker, whom she met while working as a psychologist at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum, where the Joker was a patient. Her name is a play on the name "Harlequin", a character which originated in the commedia dell'arte.

The character was originally voiced by Arleen Sorkin in various tie-ins to the DC animated universe. Since then, she has also been voiced by Hynden Walch and Tara Strong in either DC Animated Showcases or in various video games. In the Birds of Prey television series, she was portrayed by actress Mia Sara. The character made her live-action cinematic debut in the 2016 film Suicide Squad, portrayed by Margot Robbie."

I finally finished my Thailand uploads yesterday just in time to post some shots taken today at the Oxford Comic Con 2018. I say 'at' but actually I just hung around outside for a while......

There were quite a few stormtroopers guarding the Examination Schools but even so I saw quite a few Rebels slip past them....... They were game for a laugh though and happy to be photographed posing, dancing etc......

I believe these particular Stormtroopers are part of the UK Garrison.

From their website, "The UK Garrison was formed in 2000 and has gone on to become one of the foremost Star Wars costuming groups in the UK. We are a part of the constantly growing 501st Legion, itself the largest costuming organisation in the world.

We are renowned for our high standard 'movie accurate' costumes, professionalism and dedication to fundraising for charity. Our goal to be the very best at what we do has been reached and surpassed enabling us to be present at the highest level of Star Wars related events and work with some of the biggest names in the Star Wars industry."

Given that Series 7 of the Walking Dead has just finished it seemed an apt time to upload this shot of the Birmingham NEC Comic Con taken a few weeks ago. I was actually visiting the Photography Show in the Hall next door but as I was leaving I spent a while shooting some of the Comic Con attendees as they were leaving to head home. I think it's fair to say it looks like they were having more fun than most of the people at the Photo Show.......

I've desaturated the background to make the figures standout but this is rather ruined by the big smile on the face of the guy with a gun........

Thinking about this I'm not sure whether the image should be marked as 'Moderate' given it's a bit gory but then again any of the kids attending the Show would have seen this and worse so on balance I guess its okay. If anyone thinks differently let me know and I'll change the setting.

Having shot a lot of photos of the #OxfordComicCon #StarWars characters from across the street with my DSLR and long lens I put my camera away, crossed the road and asked the one remaining #Shadowtrooper if I could take a shot with my phone. He obliged and interestingly although shot with an #iphone it's one of my favourites from the morning.

As you may have guessed, it's fair to say there's been a bit of Instagram tweaking involved here.....

By the way does anyone know how to download images from Instagram ? At some point my settings have changed and it's no longer saving 'Instagrammed' to my Camera Roll. To get this on here I had to take a screen shot and then upsize it from a relatively small image.

Once again the annual Photo Show at the NEC coincided with the Birmingham Comic Con. Unlike last year when there were plenty of opportunities to get some Cosplay shots this year the two shows were separated, presumably to stop photographers making a nuisance of themselves.......

Luckily Catwoman decided to come almost to the Photo Show entrance and pose for a few shots. Needless to say she proved quite popular.

From Wikipedia : "Catwoman, in her first appearance, wore no costume or disguise at all. It was not until her next appearance that she donned a mask, which was a theatrically face-covering cat-mask that had the appearance of a real cat, rather than a more stylized face mask seen in her later incarnations. Later, she wore a dress with a hood that came with ears, and still later, a catsuit with attached boots and either a domino or glasses-mask.

In the 1960s, Catwoman's catsuit was green, which was typical of villains of that era. In the 1990s, she usually wore a mostly purple, skintight catsuit before switching to a black catsuit similar to Michelle Pfeiffer's costume in Batman Returns, except not stitched together.

In recent years, artists have typically depicted Catwoman in some variation of a tight, black bodysuit. Ed Brubaker, the writer behind the 2001 revamp of the character, has stated that Selina's current costume was inspired by Emma Peel's iconic leather catsuit in The Avengers television series. It has a more high tech look, with domino-shaped infrared goggles on her cowl. Many of her costumes have incorporated retractable metal claws on the fingertips of her gloves and sometimes on the toes of her boots. On rare occasions, she has also sported a cat's tail."
