I've shot the iconic Future Systems designed Birmingham Selfridges many times before but I think the 8mm fisheye shots I took last weekend are amongst my favourites.

From Wikipedia "The Selfridges department store forms part of the redeveloped Bullring shopping centre on the edge of the city centre, and was the only part of the new development designed by architects other than Benoy Ltd. (the firm responsible for masterplanning the scheme). The building is a prime example of the early 21st century movement referred to as "blobitecture", and has been compared to Peter Cook's Kunsthaus in Graz, Austria, who in a 2004 interview discussing his work and Future Systems said he would "rather be with the Blobbies than the Boring Farts!""

As we were renting an apartment in the Kazimierz district of Krakow the Remah Synagogue and adjacent Old Jewish Cemetery were only a short walk away. This is a fisheye shot looking up at the diminuitive synagogues ceiling.

From Wikipedia : "The Remah Synagogue, (Polish: Synagoga Remuh), is named after Rabbi Moses Isserles c.1525–1572, known by the Hebrew acronym ReMA (רמ״א, pronounced ReMU) who's famed for writing a collection of commentaries and additions that complement Rabbi Yosef Karo's Shulchan Aruch, with Ashkenazi traditions and customs. Remah Synagogue is the smallest of all historic synagogues of the Kazimierz district of Kraków. It is currently one of two active synagogue in the city."

Before I return to Lisbon shots, assuming I get a chance today to process some more shots, here's one hot off the press from a talk / tour of the University of Oxford Blavatnik School of Government. This was taken with my 8mm Samyang fisheye to make the most the curves,
I had seen the photographic potential of this Herzog & de Meuron designed atrium whilst it was under construction last Spring so I was keen to take advantage of the Open day. It was very busy to start with but this was taken near the end so the crowds had started dispersing.

From Wikipedia : "The Blavatnik School of Government is located in the University of Oxford's Radcliffe Observatory Quarter on Woodstock Road, however its main entrance is on Walton Street. The building is designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron to promote open discussion, interaction and collaboration. The central forum is inspired by the idea of openness and transparency and connects all the floors together. Construction work started in autumn 2013, after some controversy, and ended in late 2015. The building is controlled by a combination of systems and technology that helps minimise its environmental impact.
The building is taller than Carfax Tower in the centre of Oxford, this dominating the site and causing opposition to the scheme by local residents in the Jericho district of the city and elsewhere. The site is immediately to the south of the café/bar Freud, in the historic 1836 Greek revival St Paul's Church on Walton Street. The scheme has been opposed by the cafe's owner, David Freud, due to its size compared to the church building. The site is also opposite the classical Oxford University Press building. In Spring 2013, a public meeting was held in St Barnabas Church and the building was described as "a concrete marshmallow".

I'm still finding my feet with my 8mm Sanyang lens but generally I prefer using it for symmetical compositions so churches such as Bath Abbey make for great subjects. Just occasionally I find a dynamic non-symmetrical composition that I really like such as this one here.

From Wikipedia : "The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Bath, commonly known as Bath Abbey, is an Anglican parish church and a former Benedictine monastery in Bath, Somerset, England. Founded in the 7th century, Bath Abbey was reorganised in the 10th century and rebuilt in the 12th and 16th centuries; major restoration work was carried out by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 1860s. It is one of the largest examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture in the West Country.
The church is cruciform in plan, and is able to seat 1200. An active place of worship, with hundreds of congregation members and hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, it is used for religious services, secular civic ceremonies, concerts and lectures. The choir performs in the abbey and elsewhere. There is a heritage museum in the vaults.
The abbey is a Grade I listed building, particularly noted for its fan vaulting. It contains war memorials for the local population and monuments to several notable people, in the form of wall and floor plaques and commemorative stained glass. The church has two organs and a peal of ten bells. The west front includes sculptures of angels climbing to heaven on two stone ladders."
