I think one of the best things about photography is that the range of subjects and genres is so wide that once you've become reasonably proficient at one you can then widen the scope to try something a bit different. Portraiture / fashion photography is something that is relatively new to me but that's all the more reason to give it a go.

Hands are always one of the most difficult things to get right in shots like this and I think maybe this shot suffers from an exaggerated hand size thanks to my suggested posing for the model Ella Rose. I still quite like it though for the stunning red dress, unusual framing and direct eye contact.

Another sepia portrait of model Andrea, one of my favourites from the recent #Nikon100 London #NikonMeetups fashion shoot at a fabulous location in West London ( www.shootfactory.co.uk/uk-locations/randolph-london-w9/ ).
My shots might differ from other people's as I didn't use the studio lights provided as my hotshoe was damaged and I couldn't fit the IR commander unit. As a result I had to shoot using only the available natural light, something that has added a bit of extra drama to the shots (and created a bit of a headache in post-production thanks to the extreme contrast......).
Having been selected as one of 100 photographers to take part in the Nikon Centenary celebrations the day involved five seperate themed shoots around different locations in London. All in all it was a superbly organised event and I captured a wide variety of shots, some in genres I've not much experience.

Compared to some of the other shots this is 'straight out of the camera', I think it lets the the natural beauty of Ivory Flame shine through but in some ways it feels like there's not much of 'me' in the shot. I suppose what I'm trying to say is it's a pose made by the model against a plain background with relatively flat light and I've not manipulated it at all in post-production. It's questions like these that are one of the reasons I've been making a conscious effort to explore a more diverse range of photographic subjects.

A shot from the Nikon School 'Film Noir' workshop I attended a couple of years ago. Having won a free days training as part of my #Photo24 prize I opted for this course as it is completely different to my normal style and subject for photography.
A small group of us spend a great day photographing a model using off camera flash trying to recreate some classic 'film noir' lighting set-ups.
This shot might look like it was only lit with window light but being a dull day an off camera Speedlight flash was fixed to the escape stair railing outside and fired through the basement window to highlight the models face.
I only uploaded one shot from the shoot at the time but over the next few days I'll be uploading some more.
