Double celebration today, it's my Birthday and I won a Competition. First though the bad news, I had to buy cakes for 14 colleagues. Second the good news, one of them didn't want one so I had to eat two...... As for the competition, it's been confirmed today that the Science Museum image below has won 'Best overall image' in the Advanced Photographer Magazine / Samsung Photo24 Challenge. A 10 inch Samsung Galaxy should be on it's way to me shortly.

A bonus fourth upload today in the form of this flipped shot of the Shard. I'm always on the lookout for shots that'll flip as I think they're a bit of fun.

A shot of one of the University of Oxford Proctors Officers. This group replaced the 'Bulldogs', a private police force that for centuries have made sure University ceremonies such as Graduations pass off without incident.
From Wikipedia : "The Oxford University Police, or Oxford University Constables (popularly known as Bulldogs), was the private police force of the University of Oxford between 1829 and 2003. They carried warrant cards and were empowered to act as police officers within the University precincts and within areas of Oxford within four miles of any University building. As of 2001 the force existed as a private constabulary (a non-Home Office police force) with 40 sworn constables. They were widely recognised for the bowler hats which formed part of their uniform, and formerly had the duty of patrolling outside the Examination Schools alongside the University Proctors, the officials responsible for discipline in the University. They were abolished by the University Council in 2003."

Hopefully I've correctly identified this building as the The Orange Tower, MediaCity UK, Salford though I'm not sure if the structure n the foreground is part of the same building.
From Wikipedia : "an 11-storey building, designed by architects Sheppard Robson. It is a glazed structure with four types of cladding, including one made of folded aluminium in a diamond pattern. It houses departments from the University of Salford on three floors and on seven floors, staff from ITV Granada.

My 7000th upload to flickr (I've a handful set to private for those that check.....) and appropriately it's a new version of a shot I took nearly twenty years ago and was amongst my first uploads to flickr. The stunning Library of Celcus is one of the highlights of a trip to the ruined Roman City of Ephesus but I'd recommend getting there when the site opens as it soon gets swamped with tour groups from Cruise ships docked at the nearby Kuşadası.
