A change of tack here with this shot taken last weekend in Carcassonne in the south of France. Having spent a day wandering round the old town the week before we returned to Carcassonne to visit the new town on our way back up through France as I'd heard there was an installation of colourful umbrellas along one of the main shopping streets. This iphone shot may have captured the scene better than my DSLR but as ever given my backlog it may be a while before I start processing shots from this trip.

I probably will probably get around to uploading some more DLR31 shots at some point but I don't have any processed. I thought therefore instead I'd add a splash of colour on this dreary September weekend.

Often when I'm travelling I don't upload photos to flickr, you can follow my Instagram if you'd like to see more shot from my travels : www.instagram.com/dgphotos.co.uk/

I'll get round to processing my shots from my recent trip to the south of France at some point but until then here's a B&W version of my previously uploaded photo of the amazing Felice Varini installation in Carcassonne.

Without seeing this installation in person it might be quite hard to believe that isn't some kind of photoshop trickery but I can assure you this is pretty much a 'Straight out of Camera(phone)' shot.......

From Wikipedia : "Felice Varini (born in Locarno in 1952) is a Paris-based, Swiss artist who was nominated for the 2000/2001 Marcel Duchamp Prize. Mostly known for his geometric perspective-localized paintings in rooms and other spaces, using projector-stencil techniques, according to mathematics professor and art critic Joël Koskas, "A work of Varini is an anti-Mona Lisa."

Felice paints on architectural and urban spaces, such as buildings, walls and streets. The paintings are characterized by one vantage point from which the viewer can see the complete painting (usually a simple geometric shape such as circle, square, line), while from other view points the viewer will see ‘broken’ fragmented shapes. Varini argues that the work exists as a whole - with its complete shape as well as the fragments. “My concern,” he says “is what happens outside the vantage point of view.”

Another iphone shot from my recent trip to Carcassonne, this time it shows the amazing Felice Varini installation on the walls of the medieval La Cite.

Now I know a lot of houses in Amsterdam lean a bit as thy're built off wooden piles but I think maybe my iphone panorama shot has exaggerated this somewhat........

As I normally travel with my Nikon D7200 DSLR I don't shoot much with my iphone but I do find it useful for these panoramas.

Click here to see more photos from my trips to Amsterdam : www.flickr.com/photos/darrellg/albums/72157677093461416

From Wikipedia : "Amsterdam's name derives from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin as a dam of the river Amstel. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading centre for finance and diamonds.

In the 19th and 20th centuries the city expanded, and many new neighborhoods and suburbs were planned and built. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List."
