I uploaded a colour variation on this shot of some statues at Blenheim Palace yesterday but I think maybe I prefer the colour version for the warmth of the stonework.

I've taken full advantage of my Annual pass over the last year but it runs out next weekend. Just when I thought I wouldn't bother renewing they go and offer 15 months for the price of twelve. That makes it about £1/month to visit one of the most spectacular Palaces in the United Kingdom. Guess you'll be seeing some more photos from here of the next year and a bit.

...and this is just the entrance. Blenheim Palace is quite possibly the grandest of all the English Country Houses, certainly of those I've been too.
From Wikipedia "The solid and huge entrance portico on the north front resembles more the entrance to a pantheon than a family home. Vanbrugh also liked to employ what he called his "castle air", which he achieved by placing a low tower at each corner of the central block and crowning the towers with vast belvederes of massed stone, decorated with curious finials (disguising the chimneys). Coincidentally these towers which hint at the pylons of an Egyptian temple further add to the heroic pantheonesque atmosphere of the building."

Blenheim Palace is without a doubt one of my favourite Country Houses (Country Palaces ?), not only is the building fabulously over the top but there's some photogenic formal gardens and plenty of varied parkland surrounding it as well.
