Moving on to my next Nottingham target, it's the Jubilee Campus of Nottingham University, considered the first major project by MAKE Architects. By this point the weather had really turned so I've gone for quite a strong post-production to pull some detail out of the highlights and shadows.

In this shot you can see how the the facade of Birminghams Cube is cut away in a staggered fashion to reveal the building beyond.

From Wikipedia : "The Cube is a 23 storey mixed-use development, under construction, in the centre of Birmingham, England. Designed by Ken Shuttleworth of MAKE Architects, it will contain 135 flats, 111,500 square feet (10,359 m2) of offices, shops, a hotel and a 'skyline' restaurant. It is the final phase of The Mailbox development by the Birmingham Development Company (BDC), set to be completed in late 2010, despite BDC falling into administration in March 2010. It is being constructed by BuildAbility Ltd., the subsidiary construction company of BDC, established especially for the construction of The Cube. The site is enclosed by The Mailbox complex, Commercial Street, Washington Wharf apartment complex and the Worcester and Birmingham Canal."

The morning of my Birmingham dawn raid the sun decided to appear briefly and then disappear behind some patchy fog. It was quite frustrating as I'd see a shot and then have to wait for the sun to come out. Luckily the resulting shots we pretty spectacular so I was happy to wait.

Taken from the top of Orbit, the Anish Kapoor / Cecil Balmond designed structure, this shot shows the unusually restrained (for them) MAKE Architects designed Copperbox, the colourful BBC Studios and the largest McDonalds in the World, AEW Architects, on the left (now there's something to boast about.....)
