Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas !

I've given the iconic sign a high contrast, 'in your face treatment' which seemed to suit the place itself.

From Wikipedia : "The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is a Las Vegas landmark funded in May 1959 and erected soon after by Western Neon. The sign was designed by Betty Willis at the request of Ted Rogich, a local salesman, who sold it to Clark County, Nevada.

The sign is located in the median at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, north of the historic stone pillars of the old McCarran Airport on the east side, and across from the Bali Hai Golf Club and the (closed) Klondike Hotel & Casino on the west side. Some consider the sign to be the official southern end of the Las Vegas Strip. The sign, like most of the Strip, sits in Paradise and is located roughly 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the actual city limits of Las Vegas. (Such distinctions are usually ignored by both locals and tourists, who refer to the entire metro area as "Las Vegas".)"

Interesting cloudscape over Lake Pukaki

"Lake Pukaki is the second-largest of three roughly parallel alpine lakes running north-south along the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin on New Zealand's South Island. The others are Lakes Tekapo and Ohau. All three lakes were created when the terminal moraines of receding glaciers blocked their respective valleys, forming moraine-dammed lakes.

The glacial feed to the lakes gives them a distinctive blue colour, created by glacial flour, the extremely finely ground rock particles from the glaciers. Lake Pukaki covers an area of 169 km², and the surface elevation of the lake normally ranges from 518.2 to 532 metres above sea level." Source : Wikipedia

Dawn on Charles Bridge, Prague.

I'd taken a few shots, which were okay, and then as if by magic a old couple came along hand in hand.

Deliberately composed to add to the feeling of disorientation. Hopefully it's easy to imagine this was taken from the rollercoaster itself. My wife uploaded a photo of the Rage Rollercoaster at Southend's Adventure Island Amusement Park about six months ago and it's gone on to become one of her most viewed photos (see here : www.flickr.com/photos/marie-g/1223410820/ ). Not that I'm competitive but I'm going to need your help catching up.

From Wikipedia : "Rage is a Gerstlauer Eurofighter roller coaster situated at Adventure Island in Southend On Sea, United Kingdom. It opened on 10 February 2007. It is one of the biggest investments the park has ever made. It features three inversions: a Vertical loop, Immelmann and a Zero-G roll."

Update : Apologies for bumping this to the front of my photostream because I know it'll annoy some of you but it's not every day that a magazine runs an interview about your photography, click here for details of my Interview in the June 2011 Issue of Advanced Photographer Magazine : www.flickr.com/darrellg/5737939741/ (Promise not to mention it again ;-)

Oh, and for those interested Maries shot is still a couple of thousand views ahead of me so thats another reason for bumping ;-)

Update, 17/09/13 : Finally overtaken her........

We treated ourselves to a Thai meal at the lovely Royal Orchid restaurant in Albufiera.

In case you wondering why it's deserted it's because we were the first customers of the day, only fair when you've a 3 1/2 year old in tow. We ordered our daughter a childs meal thinking we'd get some chicken noodles or something and were surprised when they brought out fishfingers and chips. Of course thinking about it we shouldn't have been too suprised, afterall we were in Albufeira, not Bangkok.
