It was great to see the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough hanging around talking to the spectators after the Olympic Torch Relay event so I took the opportunity to get some candid shots.

It's Encaenia tomorrow so I though I'd upload another shot of Chris Patten, Chancellor of the University of Oxford, leading last years procession to the Sheldonian. The only recipient of an Honorary Degree this year that I'd heard of is Sir George Martin, the Beatles Producer but it's still a great spectacle nevertheless.

From Wikipedia : "The most famous Encaenia is the ceremony at the University of Oxford, which usually takes place on the Wednesday of the ninth week of Trinity Term (i.e. a Wednesday in the latter part of June). Preceding the ceremony is a procession of some of the participants to the Sheldonian Theatre, inside which the main event takes place. Those who take part in the procession are the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, and Pro-Vice-Chancellors, the Heads of Houses (i.e. the university's colleges, societies, and halls), the four Heads of Division, holders of Higher Doctorates, the Proctors, the Assessor, the Public Orator, the Professor of Poetry, and the Registrar, together with the outgoing President of the Oxford University Student Union, and the Presidents of the Junior and Middle Common Rooms of the colleges to which the Proctors and the Assessor belong."

The last shot of long distance runner Haile Gebrselassie for now. I photographed him in Glasgow at the weekend as he started one of the Great Scottish Run childrens races. Reading about him since on Wikipedia it was interesting to note he cites having to run ten kilometres to school (and back.....) as one of the reasons for his talent.

From Wikipedia : "Haile was born as one of ten children in Asella, Arsi Province, Ethiopia. As a child growing up on a farm he used to run ten kilometres to school every morning, and the same back every evening. This led to a distinctive running posture, with his left arm crooked as if still holding his school books"
