A spot of house-keeping before I move on to some new photos. Whilst searching for images for my two interviews (this months Advanced Photographer and Digital Photography Enthusiast) I decided this crop of a previous upload would work really well as a double page spread, particularly as it had been published in Lonely Planet Magazine before. Unfortunately I then realised it's one of a limited number I've since submitted to the Getty Images Flickr collection and therefore to use it would be to violate my exclusive license agreement.... (still, having checked today at least by way of compensation they seem to have licensed it last month).
This is looking a touch dark compared to the original but I wanted to boost the contrast and saturation without burning out the cloud highlights, it looks fine on black.

I didn't spend too long wandering around Canary Wharf when I visited back in May as the weather by this point had turned less than Summery (and stayed that way ever since it would seem). I think this is by far the best shot I took there and an observation on how smoking has become so socially unacceptable everyone has to stand in their own little cubicle.

From the Building Design article, Judge and architectural photographer Quintin Lake said: “The winning image stood out immediately for its combination of strong geometry and contemporary authenticity, captured at just the right moment. The use of primarily monochrome colour has been used to advantage by the photographer to focus our attention on the hands and faces. The exile of smokers from their place of work are one of few private moments we see publicly on the street today: a strange piece of modern theatre beautifully captured in this image.”

24/06/14 : The latest news for this image is it's been shortlisted for the 'Environmental Photographer of the Year 2014'. The Exhibition will be showing at the Royal Geographical Society in London for the next few weeks.

When I took these shots of Fishermans Bastion I remember thinking they were probably amongst the best shots of the trip to Budapest and now I've processed them I'm not disappointed.

Having had a little longer to consider this shot of the Olafur Eliasson 'Your Rainbow panorama' I think maybe it's better cropped to a square format ? I'm not sure the top and bottom of the frame add much but I'd be interested to know what you think ?

From Wikipedia : 'Olafur's artwork Your rainbow panorama consists of a circular, 150 metres (490 ft) long and 3 metres (9.8 ft) wide corridor made of glass in every color of the spectrum. It has a diameter of 52 metres (171 ft) and is mounted on 3.5 metres (11 ft) high columns on top of the roof of the ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum in Aarhus. It opened in May 2011. Visitors can walk through the corridor and have a panoramic view of the city. Construction cost 60 million Danish kroner and was funded by the Realdania foundation.
Olafur's idea was chosen in 2007 among five other proposals in a bidding process by a panel of judges. At night the artwork is lit from the inside by spotlights in the floor.'
