Just starting to turn my attention to processing my RAW files from my trip to Lisbon back in September. It was a great trip for a number of reasons ; fantastic places to photograph, some much needed sunshine, the food and of course catching up with a couple of friends I don't see as often as I'd like.

From Wikipedia : "The Pena National Palace (Portuguese: Palácio Nacional da Pena) is a Romanticist palace in São Pedro de Penaferrim, in the municipality of Sintra, Portugal. The palace stands on the top of a hill above the town of Sintra, and on a clear day it can be easily seen from Lisbon and much of its metropolitan area. It is a national monument and constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century Romanticism in the world. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. It is also used for state occasions by the President of the Portuguese Republic and other government officials."

My favourite shot from the evening on the Falesia beach. I think it's because the couple are walking towards the camera, looking a bit more summery and the background has a great depth to it, enhanced by a bit of difusion.

Unlike some of the Algarve resorts Albufeira Town seems to have maintained a lot of it's Portugeuse character. For a family holiday it made a great base as it had a decent beach and wasn't too far from anywhere worth visiting.

There was some discussion as to whether we should visit parks like Zoomarine but we were relieved to see the animals treated with respect and had large enclosures etc. Also, the closeness of the trainers with their animals was also touching.

I'd always thought the Algarve was full of sun-burnt Brititsh people in Union Jack shorts so it'd never really appealed to me. Luckily such people tend to stick together in high concentrations leaving the rest of the coastline almost empty. At least in March anyway.
Interestingly this photo was taken only 100 yards further down the beach than the previous upload, and yet it's completely different in feel.
