The facade of Gaudi's Casa Batllo is very well lit at night so it's quite easy to take photos. From this detail of the first floor window it is easy to see why locals call it the House of Bones.

From Wikipedia : "Casa Batlló (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈkazə bəʎˈʎo, bədˈʎo]), is a building restored by Antoni Gaudí and Josep Maria Jujol, built in the year 1877 and remodelled in the years 1904–1906; located at 43, Passeig de Gràcia (passeig is Catalan for promenade or avenue), part of the Illa de la Discòrdia in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Catalonia.

The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), and indeed it does have a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It was originally designed for a middle-class family and situated in a prosperous district of Barcelona."

An archive shot of the Christopher Wrens magnificent Sheldonian ceiling.

This shot suffers from a bit of barrel distortion and flare on the right hand side, so I planned to go back with my D200 and 11mm wideangle. A colleague of mine tells me they've just started a restoration project on the interior so that may just have to wait (although interestingly Wikipedia believes the four year project has just been finished. I'll have to go and investigate myself).

From some angles Calatravas Opera House in Santa Cruz, Tenerife bears some resemblance to Jørn Utzons Sydney Opera House.

Not the most exciting shot but I like it as it gives a sense of the ceremonial approach to the Temple of Aphaea. There's also something funny going on with the scale, as the temple is actually quite small compared with most.

The nickname of Gaudis Casa MIla, 'The Quarry' seems quite apt. The building looks like it's been carved from a solid lump of rock rather than built up stone by stone.
