The Manger / Dragon Hill.

Taken at the foot of the hill with the Uffington White Horse just out of shot. To me the green folds of the hill really looked like material draped over the landscape.

From the ever interesting Wikipedia : 'Dragon Hill is a small hillock immediately below the Uffington White Horse on the border of the civil parishes of Uffington and Woolstone in the English county of Oxfordshire (formerly Berkshire).

Dragon Hill is a natural chalk hill with an artificial flat-top (situated on the scarp slope of White Horse Hill), to which clings the legend that it was on its summit that Saint George slew the dragon. A bare patch of chalk upon which no grass will grow is purported to be where the dragon's blood spilled. It has been suggested as some sort of Iron Age ritual site associated with the nearby hill-figure.'

The curvy bandstand by ex-Oxford Brookes Architecture tutor Níall McLaughlin makes a bold addition to the seafront adjacent to the 1930's Modernist Pavilion.

Taking it's inspiration from Damien Hirsts Spot Paintings (maybe) this shop exterior in the North Laines area certainly brightened the street up.

From Wikipedia : "Today the North Laine is a bohemian shopping area popular both with locals and tourists, well served with cafés, bars and entertainment venues including theatres such as Komedia, which is in a former Tesco supermarket. The latter had been closed for some years in anticipation of major redevelopment of the area which failed to materialise; in the building was for some time a covered market with a number of small stallholders, until Komedia moved in from their previous home in Kemptown. The first branch of Anita Roddick's Body Shop, later to become a multinational business, was opened at 22 Kensington Gardens. Typical retailers include art, antiques, architectural salvage, second-hand books, CDs, "retro" clothing, graphic novels, musical instruments and new age paraphernalia. There is a high turnover of boutique-style shops in the North Laine in general."

Once again the symmetry has been ruined as this guard is looking off to his right. It makes you wonder what he was looking at.
